Mission & Vision

SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION:

Isaiah 49: 8 declares, “This is what the LORD says: In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you; I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to re-assign its desolate inheritances,”

Jeremiah 29:11-13 states “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV)

We are committed to, raising the standard of excellence; while seeking to destroy the strongholds of Satan; through the power of the Holy Spirit, and through Well-developed ministries that caters to the entire man; (the body, the soul and the spirit.)

VISION STATEMENT:

“A Christ-centered church, with a people-caring ministry”

OUR CORE VALUES:

  1. Reaching the Lost
  2. Influencing Community Values by being Salt and Light
  3. Living by the authority of the scripture
  4. Committed to Christ-Centered Ministry Involvement
  5. Promote Personal and Corporate Prayer and Worship
  6. Loving and encouraging People
  7. Committed to the Stewardship of our time, our talent and our treasure
  8. Practice Spiritual Reproduction (Mentoring)
    1. Discipleship has to do with: (maturing and training people in Christian service, for the glory of God)
    2. Servant-hood: (To be a servant is more than an action; servant-hood has to do with our identity and orientation.    Servant-hood requires that we become personally accountable and obedient in our relationship with God, and those who are over us in the Lord. Servant-hood is a grace given by God.)
    3. Inclusiveness: This means that (every member in the body of Christ is a minister.)
    4. Excellence: This refers to the quality, or state of being morally, physically or spiritually outstanding and superior.

Everyone at Church of God is encouraged to internalize our mission, vision and core values, so that they will become an integral part of daily living for Christ. Ministry action plans have been developed for each objective, to help our people achieve the mission and vision for the future.
Portfolios and responsibilities have been established among the various Boards/Committees and the ministry staff, to work with the congregation, so that our ministry objectives can be achieved. We also have in place, a Long-Range-Planning Committee; the “Strategic Action Committee.” This committee serves as the focal point for communicating and monitoring the action plans that are set out at our annual “leadership strategic conferences.”

BASIC PREMISE:

  1. The Bible is the official textbook of the Church of God and all its educational agencies
  2. Christ is the center of every aspect of the Church’s ministries: All our activities must be conducted to the uplifting of the name of Christ.
  3. People are the number one concern of our Church. We are a diverse people; (from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds,) but we are united with one purpose, to reach the un-churched people of our community with the life-changing message of Christ; showing respect for the individual, and a commitment to excellence in Service.

PRINCIPLES FOR ACTION

    1. Christ-Centered: It is felt that a Christ-Centered Church is the creative handiwork of the Divine Craftsman; the Master Builder – Jesus Christ. “Without Me, ye can do nothing” (John 15: 5) The object of our teaching is to see people conforming to the image of Christ and then; having people caring for  people.”
    2. Bible-Based: It is impossible to be a truly Christ-Centered Church without being Bible-Based. We believe that “Jesus is the Word.”

As a Church we consider the Word of God to be profitable for:
a)  Doctrine: Teaching Christian principles.
b)  Reproof: Making one aware of violations of life principles.
c)  Correction: Taking corrective measures.
d)  Instruction: Exhortation and encouragement for stable Christian practices. (2 Timothy 3: 16-17).

  • Prayer-Focused: Habakkuk 2:1-4; Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Praying in the Spirit connects us with God’s supernatural power to effect change in our world.God is our mighty fortress. He is always ready to help in times of trouble. The Lord, the All- Powerful one is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:1-11). We know that God is in control. He constantly watches over us. He cares for and protects us in all our ways. We know also that God hears our prayers and we are sure that He answers. We therefore, commit our selves to consistent prayer.
  • Spirit-guided: The Church believes that dependence on the Holy Spirit for direction in all things, gives a spiritual perspective that can be found in no other way. People demonstrating genuine care for people, comes only through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • Love-Motivated: Love is the greatest motivator that we have towards God and His people. Our care and respect for the individual is motivated by our love for God. We believe that the love of God that draws men to Himself and transforms them into His likeness is to be demonstrated in our daily actions and lifestyle.
  • Individual-Oriented: At Church of God, we emphasize the individual and his or her needs. These needs are categorized into a fourfold ministry:
    1. Education: In order for the individual to uphold Christ-Centered practices, he or she must be equipped with the Word. Individuals are encouraged to set aside time to “search the Scriptures”. All our members are urged to be at the Wednesday evening Bible Studies and at Sunday school.
    2. Fellowship: Every individual is a “VIP” and has a basic need for fellowship; to love and to be loved. Our ministries and programs are geared to the fulfillment of this need.
    3. Worship: Mankind was created with a genuine desire to worship; and unless this desire is properly channeled, it will be misdirected. The Church of God focuses on the individual, in worship of the True and Living God – “Jehovah.”
    4. Evangelism: The aim is to win the lost at any cost and making them “disciples of men” – to serve others in every aspect of their lives: socially, emotionally and spiritually. We serve with the understanding that “every member is a minister.”

OUR GOAL HAS BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE:

  1. To have well-trained staff for every department.
  2. To have a program of ministry geared to a balanced spiritual life of each member.
  3. To locate and make available good spiritual and related materials for every department.
  4. To invest in the development of our young people; sensitizing them to the schemes and exploits of the devil.
  5. To provide frequent and in-dept Study of the Word.
  6. To empower the individual to share his or her faith in God; verbally and with confidence each time the opportunity is given.
  7. To maintain an effective outreach and visitation program; to reach the sick and shut-ins; at home, in prison, in the hospitals, in nursing homes; as well as those in the community at large with chronic needs.
  8. To develop an effective prayer ministry that seeks to involve the whole Congregation.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES OF STEWARDSHIP:
A part of God’s plan to provide us with the resources needed to do His work is, for us to practice faithful stewardship. The main focus of  Stewardship is to emphasize the importance of always being good Christian stewards.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN STEWARDSHIP?
Everything: Stewardship is the management of our God-given resources     (our time, talent and our treasure) for the Glory of God.

  1. Stewardship involves all people: Deut. 31:12 says, “Gather the people together, men, women and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn and fear the Lord your God and observe to do all the words of this law.
  2. All your resources: We are called upon to invest our physical strength, money, possessions, talents, intellect and emotions in serving the Lord.
  3. All our time: We are responsible to use all our time for God’s glory.

God is the owner of everything we have (Matt 25:14-15). He has given us resources according to His choice and our ability. (Matt 25:15). God expects us to manage well what He has given to us. As a church we must trust God’s rules and live by them, knowing fully well that He has a right to check upon everything we do (Matt. 25:26-29). As Leaders and Members of the Church of God; in Covenant Faith Partnership with God we seek to excel in our faith and obedience to God.

Malachi 3:10 tells us to, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
